Seaside Self-Catering Holiday Cottages in Herne Bay, KentGo to sleep with the sound of the sea and wake up to the call of seagulls .... About Herne BayHerne Bay is a Victorian resort located where the busy Thames Estuary opens out to meet the North Sea; this coastal area has always been noted for its healthy and refreshing air, and for its Turner-esque skyscapes and summer sunsets. Herne Bay is a few miles to the east of the attractive fishing port of Whitstable and seven miles from the ancient cathedral city of Canterbury. Beyond Canterbury is some of the most beautiful countryside in southeast England. London is easily accessible by coach and by a frequent rail service from the local station (journey time approx. 1hr 25mins to London Victoria). By car, Waterloo is a 1hr 30m drive; central London is under 2 hours. Day trips to France, by car or as a foot-passenger, are available via Dover. You can walk along the shore to Whitstable, and there is a fine coastal walk to the east of Herne Bay to the Reculver towers. This is a good location for a cycling holiday. The town has many facilities for visitors and is popular for water sports, including angling, windsurfing, pleasure boat trips and even seal watching. There is a selection of pubs and restaurants, a cinema, sports centre, swimming pool and tennis courts, plus a Saturday market, promenade, seafront gardens, a few traditional seaside amusements and a summer festival in August. The seaside cottages are in a peaceful location on the shoreline, within an easy 15 minute walk of the town seafront. The sea is safe for swimming, and the water quality is high.
